Supporting Guildford’s Tech & Gaming Community

Guildford sits at the centre of one of the UK’s most sector-concentrated business ecosystems. The town has a deep games development talent base, a thriving satellite and space-technology sector, and active AI and research communities linked to the University of Surrey and Surrey Research Park.

That concentration creates financial decisions most high street accountants rarely handle. We work with founders navigating questions like:

  • Whether to claim Video Games Expenditure Credit (VGEC) or R&D tax relief on different parts of a project and how the mutual-exclusivity rules apply to the same expenditure.
  • How to structure EMI share schemes to attract and retain technical talent in a competitive market.
  • How to prepare clean, investor-ready financials ahead of a funding round.

We work with games studios and technology companies across Surrey and beyond including studios such as Thunderbox Entertainment and technology businesses like Reincubate.

If you need an accountant who understands development cycles, funding rounds and the VGEC versus R&D decision, not just year end compliance, you’re in the right place.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Guildford games studios claim both VGEC and R&D relief?

Yes, but not on the same costs. The two reliefs are mutually exclusive on identical expenditure, so the key is allocating development activity correctly so each part of a project claims the most valuable relief. We help studios structure claims that stay compliant and maximise value.

What R&D tax relief is available to Surrey tech companies?

Companies carrying out qualifying technology, engineering or software development can claim through the merged R&D scheme, and loss making R&D intensive SMEs may qualify for enhanced support. We assess eligibility, identify qualifying costs and prepare robust claims. Read our guide to R&D tax credits for software and games studios to see what qualifies.

Do you work with larger and scaling companies?

Yes. We work with established and fast growing businesses, including companies preparing for investment, managing group structures or planning an exit. As you grow, our outsourced finance director and corporate finance teams give you senior support without the cost of a full time hire.

How much does an accountant cost in Guildford?

It depends on the size of your business and the support you need. We agree a fixed monthly fee upfront, so there are no surprise bills, and we’ll give you a clear quote after a free initial consultation. Our guide to choosing accountants in Guildford explains what to look for.

Do you offer a free initial consultation?

Yes. Your first consultation is free and there’s no obligation. It’s a chance to talk through where your business is heading and for us to show you where we can add value.

Can you help prepare for a funding round?

Yes. Our outsourced finance director and corporate finance advisory teams help you build forecasts, tidy your reporting and present numbers investors trust.
